Job Description

An expert in logistics in the UK is looking for an experienced Transport Manager to join them to take part in their growth and success on a permanent basis at their site in Lancaster. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a rewarding career in transport with a lively and engaging environment.

The successful candidate will manage the direction and coordination of all transportation matters within the organisation in the most efficient, timely and cost effective manner.

The role would suit a highly competent, (ideally CPC qualified) Transport Management professional with real ambition to assist in the continued growth of this successful business.

You will oversee the organising of schedules & routes, ensuring that vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements, and making sure that drivers are aware of their duties and responsibilities.

It is important that you have a thorough understanding of the pressures and demands that the logistics environment brings and can remain calm and diffuse situations professionally and diplomatically.

Your duties will cover transport legislation (including tachograph and divers' hours regulations), strategy planning and operational effectiveness to ensure the business runs as smoothly and as efficiently as possible by achieving optimum service levels whilst working to business critical KPI's. This position is very much hands-on. It is important therefore that that you have a forward thinking, dynamic approach to man-management to ensure that your drivers and planning team is engaged and working as efficiently as possible.

You will be expected to conduct performance reviews, appraisals and manage all personnel issues. Your approach will be open, honest, direct and straight forward. A strong character is essential and a certain gravitas will be required. Reliability, flexibility and integrity are values that are held in high esteem.

Salary for this opportunity is £35k-£45k. You will ideally have previous experience within food service, with experience with milk related products providing a significant advantage.
