Trainee Pig Stock Person

Job Description

Our client based in Waddingham (Gainsborough) is looking for a Trainee Pig Stock Person to join their team on a full time basis. The standard hours of work are 39 per week across all units starting from 6:30am and finishing at 3:30pm. In addition, staff work 1 in every 2 or 3 weekends depending on the staff rota and all hours worked over 39 are paid at a generous overtime rate.

The level of pay is set at minimum wage for the first 3 months. Pay rises are linked to successful achievement of the qualifications.

This role would best suit a person with a college qualification within a livestock subject or animal care, wanting to gain practical skills and start a career with good prospects.

This is a temporary to permanent opportunity, where training and development are the core company values and our client prides themselves in delivering internal and external training courses. Team members gain industry recognised qualifications and have the opportunity to progress within the company. Training is predominantly focused on pig keeping expertise, but there are also opportunities to work within machinery, farm equipment as well as undertaking management training.

The role involves working on an indoor pig farm as part of a team and carrying out the daily duties on the farm as well as pig keeping.

Additional duties will include:-

  • Checking general health and welfare of pigs
  • Ensuring a hygienic environment for the pigs through mucking out and pressure washing
  • Bedding up pigs
  • Assisting with specialised feeding regimes
  • Vaccinating pigs in accordance with health programs

Own transport is essential in order to reach the location of the farm.
