The Company ;
This major international contractor has a worldwide turnover of over £33 billion and employs over 120,000 staff worldwide . As a proportion of its worldwide turnover the UK is still relatively small at £800 million but growing every year through acquisition and planned organic growth. The company has won 45 projects in the last 12 months valued at £770 million and that figure is about to increase dramatically with the award of 2 major projects in the northwest with a value of £100 million which will spearhead its northwest expansion.
The company has a reputation for city centre redevelopment and in particular for identifying " tired" old buildings in prominent locations and redeveloping these into high end PRS apartment buildings . They are also one of the leaders in student accommodation builds. The split of the sectors they work in are roughly 55% education , 15% Health , 20% PRS and 15% Leisure / mixed use schemes. Additionally , turnover is split 35% Frameworks (such as the EFA or Housing Frameworks) , 30% Competitive bid and 35% development projects. This split means that the company has a solid and ongoing workload on which to base it`s ambitious but sustainable expansion plans.
The Role ;
An experienced Senior Project Director is needed to head up the northwest project team , in particular the 2 projects recently won . You will have worked for either a major national main contractor or a high quality regional contractor on similar types of major projects ranging in value from £20 - £100 million. You will have in depth knowledge of NEC and Design and Build contract forms and be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver complex , high profile and flagship projects on time and to budget and the experience to manage and grow a major projects team . This contractor already has a successful and experienced pre construction team in place in Manchester and so whilst the focus of this role will very much be project led - in particular delivering on these 2 projects for a major northwest development company , the ability to work with the pre construction team , Design Manager , Planners , Estimators and so on will be vital for delivering future projects in the pipeline .
This will be high profile role for the company as they must deliver against these schemes as they expand their northwest presence . The client for these schemes is a major player in the northwest development market and has a reputation for demanding the highest quality delivery.
The right candidate will need to manage 3 Senior Site Managers on these projects and work closely with a project led Design Manager and a MEP Project Manager / Building Services Manager as well a other stakeholders in the supply and delivery chain on a complex but rewarding set of projects . Future projects will likely be of a similar nature alongside Education , Housing or Leisure Schemes of similar project values.
Knowledge of the BIM process and ideally evidence of the ability to work closely with the design team in order to successfully deliver major projects would also be a major advantage for the successful candidate.
The Opportunity ;
This vacancy gives the right candidate the opportunity to fastrack and expand their career with a company which is growing their UK footprint rapidly and sustainably but has huge international presence and financial clout to give backing to this UK expansion. The role is attractive because it offers the chance to build and grow the UK footprint of a major international contractor . This means the ideal candidate will be able to develop their career without the " glass ceiling " they may sometimes experience but all the while doing this without the " risk" of joining a smaller organization overly reliant on tendered work.
