Job Description

Quantity Surveyor - £37,000 to £43,000 depending on experience - East Midlands - Social Housing


You will be working for one of the UK's leading providers of affordable housing and care support services. Giving a great opportunity to enhance your career. You will have a fantastic opportunity to work for a large Nottingham based housing association specialising in social housing provision.

This role is an opportunity for an interim worker or for a candidate seeking permanent employment in the sector, providing the correct skills, qualifications and experience are in place.

Job Role

You will be responsible for Quantity Surveying within the Asset Management team, including Repair and maintenance contracts, planned maintenance contracts and cyclical maintenance contracts.

You will be responsible for providing commercial insight and strategy to ensure business and financial targets are met. You will be using your expertise to develop the organisations commercial approach, and further improve on the contract performance.

You will be developing new ways of delivering the commercial approach to future contract performance and spend to support the contract partnership.

You will get involved with team meetings, help to prioritise workloads and resolve issues around budget and payments.

You will also be responsible for managing 2 to 3 assistants, and will need to help organise their diaries as well as your own


You will be responsible for measurement of works and agreement of same with client and subcontractors

You will involved in pricing of client enquiries including drawing on specialist/supply chain support to drive best value

You will prepare monthly cost and value reports for the area together with reviews of results and trends with operational teams

You will ensure trade working capital is maximised including payments are received on time from the client and management of 3rd party costs

You will be working in collaboration with supply chain for compliant procurement of materials and subcontract support.

You will provide commercial input including financial and contractual performance forecasts to the Commercial Manager and Senior Management team.

You will help ensure that business targets and KPIs are exceeded

You will provide technical & commercial advice to maximise value from all term contracts and technical standards

You will have up to date technical knowledge of planning regulations, good practice and housing issues and have a forward thinking approach to professional development within this role.

You must have a clean driving licence and access to a car for business purposes.


You will have experience in working in a quantity surveying role in a commercial environment

You will have a demonstrable track record of delivering service excellence to a customer base. A record of achievement in making a difference

You will have good planning, budgeting, organising and prioritisation skills. Experience of keeping sound business records

Strong report writing skills. A good standard of written business English Able to interpret financial and other systems data.

Experience managing staff in a repairs related environment

Previous experience of S.O.R Contracts

Previous experience of partnering type contracts within social housing sector
