Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Manager for one of UK's fastest growing variety retailers. The role will be based at a new state of art distribution centre in Bedfordshire.

The success Health, Safety and Environment Manager will be responsible for delivering a safe, compliant working environment across the site and all associated functions, including transport, investigation and analysis in the spirit of continuous improvement.

You design and drive with your General Manager the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) agenda and strategy across your Distribution Centre and will lead the Bedford H&S culture with passion and energy to influence colleagues at all levels.

You will support the fit-out of the new Distribution Centre and make the site fully compliant from a HSE perspective for staff and all contractors to operate safely.

The successful candidate will create, develop, review and implement safe systems of work and risk assessments across the DC and Transport whilst ensuring Health and Safety policies and procedures are implemented, communicated and adhered to by all colleagues at all levels.

You will advise on statutory changes in health & safety legislation and will liaise with site training department to ensure that operational. You will conduct training sessions with management and colleagues on a variety of HSE topics.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, tactful, assertive, results-oriented manager with a positive outlook and a clear focus on building partnerships, driving change, influencing positive behaviour and continuous improvement while allowing employees, visitors, contractors and suppliers to operate in a safe environment. You will also be a natural forward planner who constructively assesses own performance and that of others.

As a person you will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be practical in approach and outlook, be IT literate and be self-aware with a desire for continuous improvement.

It is essential that you possess a formal qualification in Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent).

It is also essential that you have a minimum of 5 years experience of managing H&S within a busy Distribution Centre environment.

Salary for this opportunity is £40k plus excellent benefits. Flexibility to work across shift patterns would be an advantage.
