Senior Accountant

Job Description

Opportunities have arisen for Senior Accountants for a company that specialises in providing businesses with services that are vital for success, such as accountancy, financial and law consultation. This is a full time, permanent opportunity in the Derbyshire region.

The Senior Accountant will work as part of a team and will be required to carry out a range

of accounting tasks for a diverse variety of clients from sole traders to limited companies.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Preparing statutory accounts - this includes incomplete records and computerised books.
  • Preparing sole Trade and Partnership accounts.
  • Maintaining accounts for clients to the required standard.
  • Preparing self-assessment tax computations.
  • Preparing corporation tax computations.
  • Training junior members of staff and being their "go to" for technical and software related queries.
  • Establishing and building strong client relationships.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
  • Dealing with client queries and liaising with HMRC on behalf of clients.
  • Assisting in the preparation of management accounts and financial forecasts.
  • General book-keeping on behalf of clients using relevant accounting systems (including Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, Digita and IRIS).
  • Visit client premises to set up and maintain book-keeping records and quarterly VAT returns and provide support to clients, who maintain their own records, using the relevant accounting.

Skills and Knowledge required:

  • Ability to develop and maintain client relations.
  • Ensure a high level of service to meet client expectations.
  • Have a solid understanding of accounting and taxation.
  • Qualified, part qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience.
  • Experience with cloud software such as SAGE and Xero.
  • AAT qualification desirable.
  • Multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise.
  • Building up good working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Working as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Being able to understand strategic tax planning.

Salary for this opportunity is £30k-£40k, depending on experience, plus good company benefits.

You will work 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday with occasional early finishes on a Friday, based on business performance.
