Logistics Area Manager (Rail)

Job Description

A well respected and established supply chain and distribution business has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Area Manager (Rail Freight) who is looking to take that next important career step. You will join an expanding, dynamic business with specialism in container and cargo logistics that will fully develop and support your career aspirations. There are two positions available, one covering locations Midlands/South (to include Northants and Tilbury), the second position covering the Northern area (Manchester, Wakefield and Scotland)

Reporting directly into the General Manager (Terminals and Depots), you will oversee rail freight operations (which is a key sector for this business) in your designated areas. It is important that you have a thorough understanding of the rail freight industry, to include running any type of rail freight Depots, and can manage the unique pressures and demands that this environment brings. It would be an advantage if you have some experience of road operations and ideally possess experience of large plant / machinery. It is essential that you have a sound risk/compliance and operational background within the rail freight sector, are commercially savvy and have superb client liaison skills. You will hold health and safety as an absolute top priority.

It is essential that you can build rapport with internal departments and external customers. You will be knowledgeable of (rail) transport legalities and manage the operational effectiveness of this important sector within the business to ensure that rail ports and contract rail operations maximise the efficiency of the network. You will aim to achieve optimum service levels.

This position is very much hands-on. It is important therefore that that you have a forward thinking, dynamic approach. You will be open, honest, direct and straight forward. A strong character is essential and a certain gravitas will be required. Reliability, flexibility and integrity are values that are held in high esteem.

An excellent package of up to £50K, plus car or allowance, contributory pension, bonus and annual salary review is on offer.
