Head of Transport & Compliance

Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced logistics professional to join a leading privately owned haulage firm within the capacity of Head of Transport & Compliance in the Northamptonshire region.

As Head of Transport, you will be responsible for the management and day-to-day running of your department and the company fleet of Drivers, Planners and De-Briefer's (up to 100 trucks/trailers). The aim of your role is always to run an efficient and effective transport and delivery service maintaining customer satisfaction, safety standards and ongoing communications with relevant departments.

You will need to have excellent people management skills, capable of communicating effectively to the team, and work closely with warehouse team to ensure loads are made in plenty of time to meet tight deadlines.

The successful candidate must hold a manager CPC and have up to date knowledge of regulations as you will be responsible for ensuring the legal compliance of the operation at all times, as well as ensuring the fleet is maintained and serviced in accordance with DVSA and company policies within budget of which a strong commercial acumen is essential.

You will come with fresh ideas on how a transport operation should effectively run and be a keen advocate of continuous improvement as well as being a concise and dedicated leader. Naturally, Health and Safety will play a key part of this role and you will be responsible for managing compliance including processes and procedures, promoting Health and Safety, leading the team to treat Health and Safety as a priority within the operation.

Person Specification and Skills:

  • Exceptional management and leadership qualities in order to motivate, inspire and develop your team.
  • Experience of controlling finances within a transport operation.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptable approach to work in order to meet the requirements of the Business.
  • PC Literate - MS Word, Excel and experience of Traffic Management Systems.
  • Good knowledge of legislation and compliance surrounding road transport operations.
  • An International CPC qualification is essential.
