Job Description

Barker Ross is currently recruiting on behalf of their client based in Cambourne, Cambridgeshire for a Environmental Health Practitioner to work in their Waste and Environment Service. This position offers an immediate start. The main purpose of the position is to undertake complex inspections and monitor compliance and enforce as necessary the provisions of all licensing, environmental and public health legislation and assist in the effective implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the public are protected against risks to their health and harm to the environment from business activities is minimised. Skills and experience needed:

  • You much have knowledge of legislation, policy, guidance, code of practice, standards etc. Provide specialist advise within the council as required.
  • Work closely with the Principle Officer to develop systems, procedures, quality and performance measures for the delivery of functions with the objective of ensuring consistency across the service, and compliance with relevant legislation, coded of practice, approved guidance and corporate policies.
  • Communication links with internal parties including; contact centre, planning, legal and other departments
  • Communication links with external parties including: company representatives, business owners and managers, Legal and Court representatives, Environmental Agency, Health & Safety Executive, Governmental and Non-governmental organisations and Parish Councils
  • Work closely with the team and management to progress key areas regulation of licensing, food safety, communicable diseases and health and safety.
  • Record all visits and action taken in accordance with service policy and procedures.

Personal qualities:

  • Ability to respond to peak periods of work and work under pressure
  • Manage own workload
  • Customer orientated approach
  • Must hold an accredited Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or successfully completed CIEH Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner programme
  • Professional qualification of competence to undertake Health and Safety investigations e.g NEBOSH/IOSH certificate
