Our client is an international leading manufacturer of special purpose engineering products based in South Leicestershire. Due to continued success they are now looking to recruit a permanent Electronics & Embedded Firmware Engineer
The Electronics & Embedded Firmware Engineer role is primarily responsible for the design, development and control of embedded firmware and hardware used within their niche products. Remote/ onsite technical customer care support and the onsite commissioning of electronic systems are other activities required. Main responsibilities include: Develop and improve existing products / technology, Development of new products, Building and testing prototypes, Writing specifications and technical reports, Ensure safety regulations are met, Attending meetings with company's staff, suppliers, customers, Keeping up to date with technologies and regulations, Research for innovative technologies / solutions and develop the most effective way to implement those to existing or new products, Technical customer support, System diagnosis, Fault finding and troubleshooting, Provide technical support to the customer service team, Liaising with customers and occasional overseas travel to advise. These tasks may involve occasional prolonged heavy-duty activities such as, lifting heavy weights, work in confined spaces, work on mobile lifting platforms, etc.
Driven and self -motivated, you will need to be pro-active, capable of spotting opportunities for improvement and new products and putting forward clear and carefully considered recommendations. Working with the Engineering Manager and other members of the R&D Team.
The ideal Electronics & Embedded Firmware Engineer candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Excellent written and spoken English
- At least 2 years' experience in system architecture and embedded systems
- Proven experience of embedded software / firmware development
- Schematic design
- PCB layout experience
- PCB prototype assembly
- Knowledge of different IP protocols & interfaces.
- Proven development of embedded software/firmware:
o Experience of practical hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded systems
o Embedded C/C++ (and/or other high-level languages)
o Knowledge of Unix/Linux environments and embedded Linux
o Previous experience of software development on ARM CPU platforms, Raspberry Pi or similar
embedded SBC hardware advantageous
- Experience with the use of oscilloscopes and other hardware debugging techniques
- Experience presenting ideas to colleagues and members of the management team
- Ability to schedule and coordinate work with tight deadlines
- Pro-active attitude, can see and research for opportunities
- Excellent customer facing skills
- Ability to elaborate and deliver effective solutions autonomously and as a part of one or more teams
- Ability to gather feedback from products through customers and installations and feed them back to the
company to help assessing the opportunity for a product improvement as well as the development of new
Minimum of Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) either in computer science or electronics (or equivalent)
Benefits for the Electronics & Embedded Firmware Engineer role include:
Salary is negotiable depending on experience but in the region of £35,000 -£40,000 per annum
25 days' holiday
