Development Metallurgist

Job Description

We are recruiting for an experienced Metallurgist to join one of the largest recyclers of steel in the UK. Their mission is to transform steel and related manufacturing into a global technology and product leader. Integral to this plan is sustainability, which drives what we do by using renewable sources where possible to reduce our carbon footprint.

Duties

To provide a technical and metallurgical support for existing customers and new business introduction
Responsibility for PPAPs and ISIRs including product audits and all other customer approval requirement
Ensure compliance to all legislative business requirements
Manage the customer specific requirements for the Steel and Bar business
Manage product benchmarking activities
Implement and manage product and process improvement trials
Support investigations into major internal and external issues
Impact assessment and raising of management of change requests
Liaise across Departments and Functions to ensure that customer ordered requirements are met to the highest standard
Support an extensive QA system, focussed on a variety of external standards, including IATF 16949.
Conduct internal and external audits for Safety, QMS and Product Conformity
To report on the various key performance indicators within the area.
To identify and progress areas of improvement from analysis data trends. This requires a structured and systematic approach to problem solving.

Key Skills

The jobholder is ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in Metallurgy / Materials with relevant work experience gained within a steel works environment.
Knowledge of QA principals and problem-solving techniques is required as well as an awareness of the key processes of the department.
The jobholder must be able to relate to and communicate with the workforce of the department as well as with staff across the functions, at all levels.
Prior knowledge of PPAPs/ISIRs would be beneficial
Knowledge of steelmaking, Casting, re-rolling, inspection, hot forging and bright conversion is desirable.
