Assistant Farm Manager

Job Description

My Client is an Prestigious Educational Centre based to the North of Lincoln, and comprises of a 220ha estate. the hold arable, livestock farms, woodlands, formal grounds, grade 2 listed buildings, formal grounds and gardens.

It is a mixed agricultural and academic estate which acts as a hub for members of the Greater Lincolnshire agricultural community and is also used for recreational purposes by members of the general public. The Herd currently comprises approximately 60 head of Lincoln Red cattle, their Flock of 10 Lincoln Longwool Sheep and a further 220 Texel X Mules.

The Purpose of the role is to:

Be responsible to the Farm & Estate Manager and will assist with the operation of the farm and the management of livestock. The Assistant Farm Manager will be a point of reference.
To ensure compliance with farm policies e.g. Bio security, Farm Assurance Schemes at all times, along with appropriate record keeping.
To assist with the activities of students within an Educational Setting
To undertake general farm duties as and when required.
To deputise for the Farm & Estate Manager as and when required.

The Key Responsibilities of the role are:

To support the Farm & Estate Manager to implement, to a high standard ,the agreed policy for the Park's herd and flock, carrying out daily husbandry tasks including stock checks, feeding and other associated tasks.
To provide line management and guidance to the Horticultural Unit manager.
To ensure adequate stock levels, security, maintenance and tidiness of the equipment, machinery and farm premises and the wider estate.
To promote environmental sustainability and good environmental practice on the farm, ensuring cross compliance and industry best practise is maintained and surpassed.
To ensure that the facilities are maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness, maintenance and repair as befits an Educational Farm enterprise to ensure a high-quality student and staff experience.
Carry out normal work associated with the raising of young stock, which may involve being on call for calvings, lambing etc.
The Assistant Farm Manager is responsible to the Farm & Estate Manager and will assist with the operation of the farm and the management of livestock. The Assistant Farm Manager will be an expert and a point of reference. The role will be significantly responsible for the operational of the farm.
To ensure compliance with farm policies e.g. Bio security, Farm Assurance Schemes.
To undertake general farm duties as and when required.

Other duties will include:

Participate in farm development planning and departmental staff development sessions when required

Adhere to the University Health & Safety Policies, maintain a safe and welcoming student learning environment ensuring that appropriate standards are always maintained

Supervise students carrying-out routine duties and assist with the preparation and delivery of practical classes.

The hours of work are what would befit a usual Agricultural Setting and prospective candidates will need to be flexible in the role to working hours. you will be required to cover some weekends, bank holidays and out of hours duties.
