Area Manager - Domestic Abuse

Job Description

Our client is one of the largest charities in London that support homelessness and vulnerable people. They have multiple service for clients such as young people, clients with a history of homelessness, mental health or substance misuse issues.

Position Available: Area Manager - Domestic Abuse, £50,520pa, fulltime, South West and West London sites.

Our client is London's largest provider of services to women affected by Domestic Abuse.

They run a refuge provision for women and children fleeing domestic abuse, floating support to women in their own homes and they deliver IDVA floating support services for people who are at very high risk around Domestic Abuse. In addition they also co-ordinate three MARACs (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference) across London.

They are recruiting for an experienced Area Manager for their Domestic Abuse Services. This

will include direct management of a number of Team and Service Managers of the above

service types. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Senior Operational

Team, working alongside other experienced Managers who deliver a range of other services

including mental health, anti-human trafficking, day services, young people's services and

offender services.

This role is a strategic role and will influence the policy, procedure and practices of the

Domestic Abuse provision across the whole organisation. The role holder will work closely

with the Director of Operations as well as the Head of Women and Children's Services (Policy) and other key stakeholders including internal and external teams and services.

Role Purpose:

As part of the senior Operations team, Area Managers are crucial to the effective delivery of our services, leading and inspiring a wide variety of staff to meet service users' aspirations by ensuring the local delivery of excellent quality, innovative and safe services and developing new provision.

Reportees: Service Managers, Team Leaders, Team Managers


  • Demonstrable experience of managing DA services.
  • Experience of managing local project and service managers and of managing the development and delivery of care, housing, support, health and community engagement services.
  • An understanding of the strategic environment in which care and support services are being delivered and the implications for the organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of contract management and the management of complex budgets

and an understanding of the legislation and good practice underpinning the robust delivery of

care, health, support and community engagement services.

  • Working knowledge of the legal framework and best practice for the protection of vulnerable

adults and children and an understanding of the importance of an outcomes focused approach

to the development and delivery of care, support and preventative services.

  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them

appropriately. Ability and experience to transform services that are not meeting local or

organisational KPI's and extensive knowledge and good practise in supporting women and

children, and experience in all types of all forms VAWG

  • Good oral, written, administration and IT communication skills
  • Ability to manage a range of staff with varied skills sets delivering a range of services and the

ability to work on own initiative within policy and procedure

  • Ability to manage diverse and conflicting demands of the post
  • Ability to implement robust improvement plans for poor performing services and staff.
  • Ability to use IT to support both scrutiny and delivery of work, including using new systems.
  • Ability to reach a wide audience to influence responses to DA
