Barker Ross is marking 30 years in business with 30 acts of kindness – including helping to fund social activities for carers of people with mental health issues
The Leicester-based recruitment consultancy is raising £500 for pro which, like Barker Ross, is celebrating its 30th birthday.
LAMP runs monthly events where people who are supporting a loved one with long term and/or complex mental health problems can enjoy a couple of hours respite through a shared activity.
These group activities, which cost £250 to run and are not covered by LAMP’s statutory funding, can include anything from lunch and flower arranging to a boat trip.
Mary Morgan, community fundraiser with LAMP, said: “We’re very grateful to Barker Ross for helping us to fund our carer activities.
“It can be hard looking after someone with a metal health issue. Carers can take strength from knowing they are not alone and draw on shared life experiences for coping skills/ support.
“We always have a support worker on hand at our carers’ events. As well as facilitating and bringing specialist knowledge, they can assist carers with more specific training and learning objectives.
“For example, we recently ran two sessions around coercive controlling behaviours. The topics covered, and the social activities, were decided upon by the group, giving carers the opportunity and choice to be fully involved.”
Barker Ross is supporting a whole range of good causes during its 30th anniversary year and is keen to hear suggestions from staff, candidates, clients and contacts.
Louise Thompson, Barker Ross group and talent a manger added: “LAMP provides a valuable service and we’re pleased to help the charity to care for the carers. It’s a nice coincidence too that we are both celebrating our 30th anniversaries.”
