Barker Ross took part in one of the biggest food manufacturing jobs fairs in the East Midlands, when, on Friday the recently redundant staff of S&A Foods turned out in numbers to seek new opportunities. Food manufacturers from across the East Midlands including Samworth Brothers, Greencore, Bakkavor and Kerry Foods were also in attendance as the food manufacturing community came together to support the S&A workers.

The uncertainty around S&A’s future climaxed at the end of October when it was announced that the company was going into administration and all 300 workers would have to look elsewhere for employment. Many of the S&A workers have gone on to successfully gain new employment but for those who are yet to secure work it was an uncertain and emotional time. Prospective recruiters spoke at length about how people can best use their skills and apply them, not only in different food manufacturing environments but across the manufacturing sector as a whole. Overall the event proved invaluable to both employers and employees.

Our thanks go to all at J.E.T for organising and hosting the event and all the work they have done in the background, it was a pleasure to be involved. We were thrilled to meet with so many enthusiastic and hard working individuals and look forward to working on their behalf in their search for new opportunities.
